This Award recognizes and rewards academic achievement in junior fencers.

TheJunior Program is designed to provide a training ground for thedevelopment of young athletes. While physical development is obviouslyimportant, the program must also stress development of values, moralsand social skills, which will remain with these future citizens alltheir lives.

Encouraging a high level ofacademic achievement in our young athletes is as important asencouraging their athletic achievement. Motivation for thisachievement, while intrinsically driven, can be enhanced throughrecognition by US Fencing.

US Fencing hastherefore established the following Academic All-American RecognitionAward Program to be presented annually at the Junior Olympics.

Program

1.      There are three program levels open to all students enrolled in anaccredited high school program. Home schooled athletes are alsoeligible.

2.       Athletes do not have to qualify to Junior Olympics to be eligible. (Both Spencer and Ashley qualified through their Division.)

3.      First Team US Fencing Academic All-American - students with acumulative GPA of 3.85 or higher shall be named "First Team US FencingAcademic All-American".

4.       Second TeamUS Fencing Academic All-American - students who demonstrate thescholastic ability to post a cumulative GPA of 3.7 to 3.84 shall benamed "Second Team US Fencing Academic All-American".

5.      Honorable Mention US Fencing Academic All-American - students whodemonstrate the scholastic ability to post a cumulative GPA of 3.5 to3.69 shall be named "Honorable Mention US Fencing AcademicAll-American".
